The Picture of Dorian Gray

Our first official reading is "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde!

It is your responsibility to find a copy of the book for yourself to read, be it a hard copy such as a paperback or an ebook - which tends to be my personal preference these days.

It would be awesome if we each commented regularly as we read the book to get an active discussion going.

All opinions are welcome!

Happy reading everyone ^_~

Update

I am sick as a dog...

But apart from that, we've had more than a week for book suggestions to come in and while it would have been awesome to hear a few more ideas...We at least came up with the minimum number of suggestions needed for a poll.

You will find the poll off to the right.

You may vote once, for either "The War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells or "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde.

For future polls and votes, I only think it fair that you do not vote for the book you suggested.

Which in this case means, I would vote for Dianne's suggestion and vice versa...which would mean it'd be up to the rest of you as to what we end up reading.

I haven't read either book yet, but am familiar with both plots and will probably end up reading both. It is just a matter of deciding, which one to start with.

Please vote guys...a book club won't be as much fun if only two or three members actively participate.

I'll leave the poll up for another week and then (hopefully) it will be reading adventure time!

Edit: I extended the poll deadline and also changed my mind. We are only human after all, n'est-ce pas?

Chapter 1

Now that all the hub-bub at work has slowed down to a simmer on most days, we can finally start the club officially!

I look forward to reading whatever book we end up voting for and even more so to our first official meeting/gathering to discuss said book.

How do we proceed?

Well, I'll tell you.

There will be a genre/topic announced for each "reading" and members get to make suggestions in the comments below.

Once we have enough suggestions, I will create a poll for all of us to vote on what to read. The book to win the most votes will be the book we read.

Now...the topic is: CLASSICS

That's right, anything that falls under the category of classic literature goes!

Please limit suggestions to just one book.

Prologue...

And so it begins...

The idea for a book club is one that I had been considering for a long time. Unfortunately, a distinct lack of interest from friends and peers delayed its creation...Until now.

Having finally found a handful of individuals who love reading at least as much as I do (if not more in some cases) the "Readers 4 Life Book Club" was born! - Yesterday.

For now, I'll be fiddling around with the blog, setting things up, coming up with some art work to match the overall theme and layout, as well as find out how to add members once everyone has set up a blogspot account.

I guess I will serve as the "blog moderator" for now until we decide to define roles and settle on how exactly we'll be running this thing anyway.

To our soon to be members, I bid you welcome and happy reading.
